#EventsToBeScene: June 2016

On My #EventsToBeScene List: June 2016

Sunshine and sunscreen are in full swing.  Wait… that was this time last year.  This year’s weather may not be in full on summer mode yet, but June is coming, ready or not.

These #EventsToBeScene are on my calendar for the upcoming month.

June 3-4

Paramount Film Series presents “True Grit” starring John Wayne about a 14-year-old girl’s search for the hired hand who killed her father. Robert Holladay film lecture 6:30 p.m. Friday. Show times 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

True Grit, like the Paramount, is simply a classic.

June 9-11

The fifth annual Children’s Art & Literacy Festival celebrates the work of Mark Teague, illustrator of the “How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?” book series. The festival includes a storybook parade, dramatic readings of Teague’s books, costumed characters, art activities, animals, magic shows, balloons and more! Teague’s artwork will be on display at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in downtown Abilene. The festival is focused on ages toddler through fifth grade although people of all ages come. Hosted by the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council.

CALF only comes once a year!  Who would want to miss it?

June 14, 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Junior League of Abilene celebrates 60 years of providing volunteers to the Abilene community with a celebration at the zoo open to the public. Food trucks and free admission to the Abilene Zoo. Kids can meet Community Helpers such as police, fireman, EMS, mail carriers and more. They will be able to see what a day on the job looks like and explore the different vehicles.

The zoo and food trucks.  Sounds like the perfect summer Saturday.
