Masterworks III, on January 26th, features Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major, Cello Concerto in E minor by Elgar and Mozart’s Symphony No. 41. The evening showcases cellist Julie Albers. Ms. Albers made her major orchestral debut with the Cleveland Orchestra in 1998, and thereafter has performed in recitals and with orchestras throughout North America, Europe, Korea, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.
In Germany, she recorded solo and chamber music of Kodaly for the Bavarian Radio, performances that have been heard throughout Europe. In 2003, Ms. Albers was named the first Gold Medal Laureate of South Korea’s Gyeongnam International Music Competition, winning the $25,000 Grand Prize.
The Pops Series continues on February 23rd, Lights, Camera, Oscars will feature Broadway stars Jenn Gambetese and Sean MacLaughlin. Since 1934, some of the most beloved songs have been Oscar winners or come from an Academy Award winning movie. This evening will feature memorable music from movies such as Titanic, An Officer and a Gentleman, Rocky, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Godfather, Gone with the Wind, Chariots of Fire and many more!
The Abilene Philharmonic is excited to continue the groundbreaking chamber concert series, The Nocturne Project, on March 23rd. Featuring the tremendous talent found on our stage without the need for a conductor, The Nocturne Project allows musicians to work together, listen more intently all the while challenging them to work better as a group. All repertoire is chosen by the musicians themselves. The Nocturne Project chamber concert will be performed in the intimate atmosphere of the Hardin-Simmons University’s Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall. Tickets are $15.
