A spacious but dated bathroom gets a major overhaul
When tackling a bathroom renovation in an older home, a likely challenge is the lack of space to work with. This was not the case when this bathroom received a complete overhaul. The home was built in 1959, but the bathroom had been added on and designed to be ADA accessible. New homeowners appreciated the space it offered but found the layout inefficient for their needs.
A renovation was planned to take the existing square footage and make it useable and efficient. A freestanding tub was added, as well as an additional vanity area and plenty of extra storage. The result is a warm yet modern take on a bathroom suite retreat.
SOAKING TUB
During the renovation, a generous amount of space was reserved for a tub. This freestanding soaking tub fits perfectly between the two sink vanities. The streamline design ties into the modern feel of the room. A floor-mounted tub filler was installed featuring a hand spray. Plumbing fixtures were found locally at Reece Bath + Kitchen.
SHOWER RETREAT
The shower’s arched marble mosaic entrance gives the space an inviting touch. A combination of striking architectural marble and coordinating porcelain tile finish out the shower space. More brass plumbing finishes were included to complete the warm, sleek look.
GOOD LIGHTING
This bathroom relies on layers of lighting which were installed during the renovation. Overhead recessed LED lighting was included to brighten the space. Sconce lighting, found at Reece Bath + Kitchen, was placed at each vanity, adding touches of brass, clear glass and matte black finishes. Each vanity mirror is also equipped with touch-activated lighting.
EARTHY COUNTERTOPS
Mont Leblanc quartzite countertops were chosen for the bathroom vanities. Quartzite has the look of marble but is more stain resistant and denser than most marbles. The colors and veining in this quartzite selection add visual interest and the earthy color tones are perfect for the space. A square edge was used to continue the modern feel of the room. The countertops were found at Pinnacle Granite Solutions.
PRIVACY PLEASE
The soaking tub sits right next to a beautiful window which fills the bathroom with natural light. Shades from Budget Blinds were installed to provide privacy while allowing all that beautiful sunshine to filter into the space. The shades operate by remote control.
SPECIALTY CABINETS
The homeowners wanted their renovated bathroom to be modern without looking cold and stark. Stained cabinets added warmth to the room. The custom arched door and drawer style makes these cabinets extra special. Brass hardware was installed, adding to the inviting, natural color palette.
