Fourth of July celebrations are the quintessential summer activity and Abilene has got some fireworks planned for you.
July 9 | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Come to celebrate 50 years of the Abilene Zoo. Enjoy the day with music from the Folkloric Group, Abilene Community Band, The Piano Man – Mike Schuler, Allan Teel Jazz Band, Key City Brass, Rock and Roll and Trombone Quartet. The first 500 guests will receive a themed cupcake. Kids get in for a dime each – the same price when the Zoo open doors on 1966.
$7 adults, $6 seniors
Who wouldn’t want to celebrate the Zoo’s 50th?
July 12, 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Finding Nemo at ACU’s Movie on the Hill.
The movie starts at 8:45 but get there early for food trucks and live music. Bring a donation to benefit the non-profit of the evening.
We love to take our pups to watch these movies. They love to visit with new friends! Just don’t forget the bug spray. Here is a picture of us enjoying this event last year!
July 14, 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Dachshund Races.
Enjoy an evening of cheering on the fastest pups on four legs. Come early and join the Rescued Dog Reunion and costume contest. Any Dachshund can race and any dog that looks like a Dachshund can race. All dogs must be current on shots and be on a leash at all times except when racing. Each dog needs two humans. One person will be at the start line and one at the finish line. Register your dachshund to race online or before the races begin.
Free.
This has been on my Abilene to-do list for years.
