School tours of museums. Summer art camp scholarships. Concerts at the zoo.
These are just some of the many Abilene programs that are made possible in part from HeArts for the Arts grants. New donors are needed to keep the program alive!
The group is hosting its annual recruitment luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Oct. 21 at the Abilene Country Club. Tickets are $15 or $120 for a table of eight.
HeARts for the Arts started in 2004 as a way for people to make a donation that helps many art groups at once. Grants are given to arts programs that help children and special populations.
It costs as little as $5 a month to be a HeArts for the Arts member.
“It’s a small amount, but it does great things,” said Gail Russey, a HeArts for the Arts founder and a board member of the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council, which oversees the program.
This year, HeArts for the Arts is awarding $70,700 in grants to nearly 20 programs.
Examples of grants include:
Abilene Ballet Theatre’s “The Nutcracker.”
School tours of The Grace Museum.
Abilene Zoo Spots & Stripes concerts.
Russey is pleased at the numerous programs HeArts for the Arts has funded over the years, but she wants it to grow so more people can benefit.
“They’re all in need, and they’re all wonderful for our city,” she said.
