Spring Cleaning

Give in to the urge to purge

For some, this is the time of year to undergo a home cleaning overhaul, most commonly referred to as “Spring Cleaning.” We feel it.

The sudden awareness of your mass of clutter and unused items, the itch to host a yard sale in the slowly warming weather, the visions of a squeaky clean home disinfected from the winter illnesses and germs? Check, check and check.

But cleaning your entire home can be an overwhelming undertaking. Don’t be afraid to break it down into smaller sections that fit into your schedule. Consider working on deep cleans by room. Start with the bedrooms and move slowly to the high traffic areas like the kitchen and bathroom. Organize as you go.  Cleaning and organizing one room at a time will allow you to completely check those rooms off the list and make you feel more accomplished.

Don’t forget to do your research. Pinterest is a great place to learn all the home cleaning hacks that have ever existed. Who knew vinegar cleans basically everything?  Pinterest knew. Check out our Creatively Abilene Pinterest board for creative home cleaning hacks that will surprise you and cut the workload in half.

Another way to cut the workload and timeframe in half is to schedule a house cleaning party for your whole family. Assign everyone their own responsibilities. It’s probably a good idea to get very specific about what things need to be cleaned (and how) so that everyone is on the same page.  Make everyone their own list and put on some music to flow through the house.  You could even make a game out of it!  Each time someone checks a task off their list they get to choose what everyone listens to!

The one thing that we wish we spent more time focusing on cleaning: our cars. Don’t neglect them! Lord knows those cars can get messy fast.  A little attention to sprucing up your vehicle during spring cleaning season will pay off when that summer road trip wheels around!
