The Addams Family at HSU

October 10, 2016 Leave a Comment

For this week’s #EventsToBeScene I took a trip to HSU to see the incredible production of The Addams Family.  It’s a musical comedy based on the beloved characters created by Charles Addams.

These characters came through so clearly and so vividly on stage.  It’s hard to pick, but my favorite had to be Morticia.  Brenna Sheridan blended into character so completely.  It was incredible to watch such a fantastic character be so believably portrayed.

The hard work and talent these young performers brought to the table were showcased by incredible costumes and make-up.  Not to mention the mesmerizing sets and dance scenes

The sub-plot where Fester fell in love and had an affair with the moon was sweet and touching.  The moon and stars came out and danced on stage with him before he flew away to be with her at the end.

No cameras allowed in the theater, so this is the best I’ve got for you, but I thought you might appreciate the fact that the show put me in the mood to wear black and white stripes (ala Pugsley).

Now, I am as familiar with the Addams Family double snap as the next person, but I only ever watched the re-runs on TV Land an embarrassing number of years ago.  To be honest all of the details have faded from my memory.  Especially since, as a young child, I preferred the slightly less creepy “Munster” family.

So needless to say, after watching this fancy fun live performance, I did some Google-ing.  (It’s one of my favorite things to do.)  I learned that these character started out as a comic strip! Which is interesting and fun.  I had no idea.

I also had no idea that the original TV show only ran for two years.  With the popularity and classical nature of these now beloved characters that face truly surprised me!  I have a new found interest and appreciation for this particular corner of pop culture.

Still contemplating Halloween costumes and I now have several new options to choose from.

Would you consider being the Pugsley to my Wednesday?
