Lina Musgrave, Abilene’s lovely Sam’s Club greeter; Willetta, Taco Casa’s wildly friendly employee (coming soon). We all know and recognize their faces, but we may not know much about their lives. Or at least, we didn’t until Scene’s new feature People You Know. What is it about these people that makes a mark on us? What is it that makes us remember them and admire them from a distance?
Presence:
Merriam-Webster defines presence is as “a noteworthy quality of poise and effectiveness.” Noteworthy, meaning hard to miss. Presence attracts notice without obvious effort. How can you not notice when someone stands apart?
Personality:
Merriam-Webster defines personality as “a set of distinctive traits and characteristics.” When we consider the type of person that makes a mark on us, generally they have characteristics that make them unique. Perhaps they are uniquely peculiar, or uniquely genuine, or even uniquely kind. Energy, personal style and social interactions set people apart. Who can you think of that has a magnetic and uniquely memorable personality?
Passion:
A person with a purpose is a sight to be seen. It’s rare in life to truly see someone passionately devoted to their pursuits, and when it happens it lights up the entire community. It’s hard to miss, and it’s hard to forget. Does that remind you of anyone?
Who do you always see around town? Maybe you’ve never met them. Maybe you don’t even know their full name. Maybe it’s that barista, or a delivery guy. Scene wants to shed light on these memorable locals we come in contact with often but may not know personally. Who is that recognizable face that you want to learn the story behind?
