Abilene’s Friday Night Lights

September 19, 2016 Leave a Comment

This coming Saturday is the first home Football game for the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys.  I am looking forward to a great first performance for the Spurs!  If you love HSU please come and show your support. I’m excited to kick off our 2016 Football season.

As a community nothing brings so many of us together quite like football season. I went to the Abilene High V Cooper game two Friday’s ago, and a Wylie game this past Friday, and I could not help but be reminded of that fact.  Even if watching the sport is not your favorite past time, there is always something entertaining at a local high school football game.

Aside from the people watching and social opportunities, the halftime shows are always so fun.   As a former dance team member, the halftime shows are usually my favorite part! And when the weather is already so fair in the evenings, what’s not to love about spending your Friday with Football?

At the AHS v CHS game I made a social call to the Cougarettes and got caught in the third quarter frenzy of the student section.  Streamers and confetti were flying for what felt like 20 straight minutes while the drumline played dance beats.

I can honestly say I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a more committed or excited group of people at anything in Abilene.  These kids get it.  They were all in; excited and celebratory.  The surprising part? Cooper was already well behind in the game at this point.

We should all learn a lesson from these students and be so excited about life that a glitter bomb is needed to express it.  Life is what you make of it.  Let’s make it awesome.

Friday night football will be happening until the middle of November! These are standing #EventsToBeScene that support the community and keep your weekends fun.  Add a few to your calendar.
