How to Make the Perfect Drink for Abilene Summer Heat

July 17, 2017 Leave a Comment

Meet your new favorite refreshment: Ranch Water.

I recently took a trip to Austin to help my friend move and enjoy the sights. We spent all afternoon at Barton Springs, enjoyed some absolutely delicious food at this place called Polvos and generally enjoyed ourselves.

On our adventures, the next day we stumbled on a pair of sister restaurants who both claimed to have invented a drink called “Ranch Water.” We had never heard of this before but enjoyed the Hatfield and McCoy style competition.

We all know how humid and hot Austin can get, right? Well it was extra humid and hot on this particular day and we needed to cooldown from a day of walking ASAP. We stopped in at one of these restaurants to try the drink in question.

I don’t think I’ve ever had anything more refreshing. Essentially the drink is just lime juice and Topo Chico extra chilled. It’s a perfect way to cool down in the summer months.

Tip: Sure, you can buy lime flavored Topo Chico but the most refreshing option is to use the original flavor with a full lime fresh squeezed. Chill the mineral water beforehand and serve with ice. This mocktail/cocktail is incredibly easy to make on your own at home for maximum summer fun.

Although, you would be hard pressed to find a more refreshing context than after an afternoon walking around downtown Austin.

Check out the cocktail recipe here.

It’s my personal preference to use a full bottle of Topo Chico, but to each his own.
