My Car: A response to this issue’s ‘Fake Your Way Through’

May 16, 2016 Leave a Comment

I drive a Mini Cooper, and I love it.

With my lifestyle, I very nearly live out of my car. Who needs a house, right?

At any given time, there are several changes of clothes and any number of receipts in the floor boards. You are also likely to find dance shoes, project folders, portable speakers and poms floating around my tiny car.

I love my car, and I know that means I should take the well being of my car more seriously. It’s just one of those adult responsibilities that doesn’t vibe with me. I dread any and all automobile related errands with a passion that inspires the most creative and persistent procrastination you’ve ever seen. I’m well aware that money doesn’t grow on trees, and that car maintenance is already expensive, but I would consider paying people to worry about my car for me. I struggle…

The day I met Zippy (my car).  Gotta love those 2010 Bermuda shorts.

Growing up, did you ever have those chores that you would do anything to get out of? I had chores that I would bargain with my sister to avoid. “If you do this one thing for me I’ll clean your room for a month!”

That is how I still feel about car maintenance.

Reading Brady Sloane’s “Fake Your Way Though Car Maintenance” is informative, but it just makes me cringe. There are so many important things I haven’t been doing!  So many important things to procrastinate. I better get busy.

I think I need one of those portable jump kits. At least once a year my car chooses an inconvenient time to need a jump. Maybe I could make time to purchase one and store it in my tiny trunk. Later.

I do love my car I promise! (I also love my Dad. Isn't he cute?)

Priority No. 1 right now is getting my car inspected and renewing my registration. I’ve been meaning to do this for about two weeks. I could’ve probably procrastinated another two weeks except now I feel sufficiently guilty. Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow.

Good news though! I do have one item from the Keep in Your Car checklist that lives in my trunk. Can I get a holla for the First Aid Kit?  I’ve got plenty of Band-Aids in case I get a paper cut on the road. I’ll let you have one if you need it. #winning

P.S. I have finally gotten may car inspected and I feel like the most accomplished human!  It’s really not all that hard y’all.  I don’t know what you were freaking out about…
