Valentine’s day can sometimes feel like yet another chore. One additional item on your weekly checklist of tasks. When you are already busy with life and suddenly you flip the page in your calendar only to realize next week you are supposed to have planned and executed the most extravagant romantic outing of the entire year:
This year Michael and I have a whole lot going on, so we decided ahead of time we were going to plan something uniquely unstressful to celebrate the month of love. We planned to take a class together at Sage Yoga. And I’m super glad we did. We are so busy we couldn’t actually go on the actual holiday, but it was appropriate for any day. I definitely wish I could go there more often. An hour and 15 minutes completely devoted to intentionally destressing the mind and body is more than worth the time and effort.
Afterward we felt relaxed and even a little bit like we had just had long heart-to-heart conversation. We were ready to take on yet another busy Saturday followed by yet another busy week! The bonus? Michael loved it too. Which caught me a little off guard, but it’s always exciting to find new things to do together.
If you haven’t considered an unconventional Valentines date, I highly recommend it. It doesn’t necessarily need to scream “romance” or “Valentine’s Day.” The simple act of trying something new is enough to create memories and connection. All it takes is a little time to invest in the people you love.
How are you guys celebrating Valentine’s Day? I’d love to hear the creative ideas you come up with and the ways that you celebrate the spirit of love.
